[personal profile] crystalball_mod posting in [community profile] fortune_favors
This fest is still in the mid-planning stages, I (the mod) am still working out exactly how it will be run and what type of things should be allowed. Since I'm running this, not to participate, but to host, I'd like to run it in the way the community would like it to be run. For this reason, I've made this post: to take in suggestions and answer questions.

A brief explanation on how this fest will be run as it stands now:
There will be a post put up, in which you only have to sign-up with your AO3 name (preferred) or the username of where you would like to submit your assignment. There will be a collection for this fest hosted on AO3, but I'm not going to limit the places creations can be hosted. Please get in contact with me if you would like to make an AO3 account for the fest.

I
will then draw-up a three-card spread personally from the Rider Deck for each participant. I will using the Rider Deck as the default, but the participants are welcome to use any deck they prefer as long as they specify which deck they're using with a link in the posting. You, the participant, can use any of the spread to inspire your creations as long as you use at least one card. An example of this would be using three cards for a Past-Present-Future or two cards for a One-Truth/One-Lie. Any order of the cards is also fine. I only ask that which cards you choose to use and which spread also be specified in the posting!

There is no penalty for signing-up and not ending up posting anything ('defaulting').

What Is Currently Allowed + Requirements:
  • Fanfic (OW or otherwise):1K+
  • Art: a complete piece on unlined paper
  • Podfic: has to match assignment + 1K+ min
  • Fanmix: 8+ songs
  • Fanvid, AMV, etc.: 1 minute 30 seconds +

Please comment below to submit either a suggestion or a question.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to running this for everyone!

What an aswesome idea for a fest! <3 Question: will you allow works in languages other than English? *fingers crossed for a positive answer*

Thank you, mod! <3 If this was an exchange I'd definitely not ask for this, but since this is a fest, I thought it might be worth a try. Oh, and sorry about my typo above. Although I'm not a native English speaker, I'm pretty sure that "aswesome" is not a word that exists, hehe. Again, thank you!

I'm still really excited about this, and only wish it got started sooner! ;D

One question, though... Will you be explaining the cards in any way? I don't know much about Tarot cards, and I don't know if googling is a great option (as information could vary from place to place). For example, I don't really know what you mean by "One-Truth/One-Lie" when it comes to the two-card option.

I love how inclusive this fest is shaping out to be! I'm a tarot reader, but i don't like gatekeeping and elitism, and i think that anyone can have something to say about the cards, no matter if they've been reading for 5 hours or 5 years!

I love the idea of communal brainstorming posts! Could the resource post be something similar, so that everyone could share their favourite resources? I have some useful ones I'd love to share with other people.

I'm so excited about this! Thank you for setting it up! I can't wait! :D

Will origfic be okay? (I thought it was mentioned in the meme threads, but you've specified fanfic here...)

Can we create more than one work? Or is it only one work per participant?

I was going to ask about this part of the rules: "Any one individual can ask for up to three assignments. However, only one fanwork can come from a single assignment. If you are planning on doing multiple, please ask for multiple." Because if participants get three cards, I could easily see wanting to make one fanwork for each one, or just getting inspired to create more than one thing.

But then you said in the comment just above, "If you want to create multiple works from one assignment, you’re free to do so!"

Could you clarify that bit?

Hi! Just to start by saying this is a fascinating and brilliant idea for a fest! I know nothing about tarot but have always been eager to learn, so this may be the perfect opportunity to mix it with something I love! Thanks for running it, and for being open to tarot-newbies! :)

That said, one question, which I hope doesn't seem too odd. I was wondering about the reasoning behind the anon period after posting? I generally see those in gift exchanges, to keep people from knowing too early who their gifter is, but I don't think I've seen them in fests or challenges where people up to write/create for themselves.

(Just to clarify: I'm not criticising the decision at all, just asking for reasons of my own self-consciousness. If I were to sign up I'd probably be writing for a fandom so small I'd definitely be recognised as the author as soon as I posted, and would feel a bit odd being marked as anonymous without a recipient or other noticeable reason for it.)

That definitely makes sense, thanks so much for clarifying!

For myself, since I'd feel more exposed posting anonymously knowing I'd be recognised but not being able to 'show myself', I'd personally vote in favour of revising (maybe making the anon period opt-in, if possible, or else giving the option to wait until the anon period is over before adding our works to the collection?).

That's just me throwing out my own thoughts, though, and I'll happily support the anon period if it's preferred! I realise there probably won't be many in my particular situation, and you've explained really well how freeing the anonymity might be for others. Ultimately, whatever makes people feel able to create what they like is best for everyone. :)

Thanks again for taking the time to explain so clearly, and for letting me ramble out my thoughts on this!

Thank you so much! That’s incredibly generous and thoughtful of you, to make the change based on only one request, and I really appreciate it! Looking forward to seeing things get started! <3

FWIW, I should be even more easily recognizable due to a certain detail about my works (the fandom doesn't help either), and yet I fully support the idea of having an anon period for this fest. <3

Hi, so, I have a few tarot decks, and if people want to see the cards they're dealt in a different deck (say, if they're just not feeling anything from RWS) I'd be happy to dig out those cards or their equivalents and upload a photo.

I wanted to run the offer past you first, rather than throwing it out blind.

These are the decks I have, but obvs I'll repost to the new space when you make it.

Circus of Fortune Tarot

Rackham Tarot

Santa Muerte Tarot

English Magic Tarot

Tarot of the Haunted House

The Wild Unknown Tarot

I also have a Universal Waite and a Marseille deck somewhere in this house, but I figure if someone's having trouble with RWS then switching to UW or Marseille will have negligible benefits compared to the above.

Hi! I have too much free time so I made a couple of banners to promote the fest:

All good. I'll just use one of these to promote the fest on my own journal :)

Thank you for running this fest!

The signup form has a section asking what platform we'd like to post on. Is it okay to not have a definitive answer yet, or to update you later via email if the answer changes? I'm not sure what format I'll be working in, and I post fic and art on separate accounts...
