This fest is still in the mid-planning stages, I (the mod) am still working out exactly how it will be run and what type of things should be allowed. Since I'm running this, not to participate, but to host, I'd like to run it in the way the community would like it to be run. For this reason, I've made this post: to take in suggestions and answer questions.
A brief explanation on how this fest will be run as it stands now:
There will be a post put up, in which you only have to sign-up with your AO3 name (preferred) or the username of where you would like to submit your assignment. There will be a collection for this fest hosted on AO3, but I'm not going to limit the places creations can be hosted. Please get in contact with me if you would like to make an AO3 account for the fest.
I will then draw-up a three-card spread personally from the Rider Deck for each participant. I will using the Rider Deck as the default, but the participants are welcome to use any deck they prefer as long as they specify which deck they're using with a link in the posting. You, the participant, can use any of the spread to inspire your creations as long as you use at least one card. An example of this would be using three cards for a Past-Present-Future or two cards for a One-Truth/One-Lie. Any order of the cards is also fine. I only ask that which cards you choose to use and which spread also be specified in the posting!
There is no penalty for signing-up and not ending up posting anything ('defaulting').
What Is Currently Allowed + Requirements:
Please comment below to submit either a suggestion or a question.
Thank you! I'm looking forward to running this for everyone!

Date: 2019-09-02 11:12 pm (UTC)One question, though... Will you be explaining the cards in any way? I don't know much about Tarot cards, and I don't know if googling is a great option (as information could vary from place to place). For example, I don't really know what you mean by "One-Truth/One-Lie" when it comes to the two-card option.

Date: 2019-09-02 11:51 pm (UTC)I am well aware that people who aren't necessarily very knowledgable about Tarot will want to participate. In fact, I encourage these same people all the more to do so!
I am planning on posting resources on how to interpret the cards: general tips, general knowledge, spreads ideas you can use with your cards, helpful websites, and other resources to help!
I was also considering the idea of putting up posts that are kind of like communal brainstorming: where you could post about something confusing you, if you want some guidance, if there's something you're considering but not sure about, etc... to help further.
I want this to be a fun experience, above all <3

Date: 2019-09-03 12:27 am (UTC)I love the idea of communal brainstorming posts! Could the resource post be something similar, so that everyone could share their favourite resources? I have some useful ones I'd love to share with other people.
I'm so excited about this! Thank you for setting it up! I can't wait! :D

Date: 2019-09-03 06:19 pm (UTC)I also agree that anyone can have insight and that's why I hope people who wouldn't normally consider this sort of thing participate!
Oh! That sounds like a great idea. I will do it that way.
I hope you do! The more the merrier, I say.

Date: 2019-09-30 05:58 pm (UTC)If you want to create multiple works from one assignment, you’re free to do so! But if you’d like to receive multiple assignments, that’s fine too.
There is no penalty for not creating something after all. :)

Date: 2019-10-09 03:25 am (UTC)But then you said in the comment just above, "If you want to create multiple works from one assignment, you’re free to do so!"
Could you clarify that bit?
Multiple Works / Assignment
Date: 2019-10-09 03:53 am (UTC)I will upload the original decision on this because it makes more sense.
[Modified Rule] It is your choice how many assignments you request and how many works you want to create from that assignment. One assignment does not have to equal one fanwork!

Date: 2019-10-09 06:06 am (UTC)That said, one question, which I hope doesn't seem too odd. I was wondering about the reasoning behind the anon period after posting? I generally see those in gift exchanges, to keep people from knowing too early who their gifter is, but I don't think I've seen them in fests or challenges where people up to write/create for themselves.
(Just to clarify: I'm not criticising the decision at all, just asking for reasons of my own self-consciousness. If I were to sign up I'd probably be writing for a fandom so small I'd definitely be recognised as the author as soon as I posted, and would feel a bit odd being marked as anonymous without a recipient or other noticeable reason for it.)
Regarding the Anon Period
Date: 2019-10-09 06:49 am (UTC)This is not a gift exchange. No one is writing for anybody else (I mean you can I won’t stop you but) and there’s no inherent secret behind what you’re creating. That is true! But personally, one of my favorite things about exchanges is the anon period itself.
I think it’s just so much easier to write something outside your wheelhouse and/or experimental when it’s not attached to you and there’s buffer space in the reception until it is. Considering that Fortune Favors allows things like podfic and it concerns the Tarot, I’m sure many people would be hesitant to try because it’s unfamiliar. I think the buffer of anon could help a lot. If I was participating, I know that that knowledge would give me confidence.
Thank you for the question. I hope I was able to convey the reasoning behind my thoughts adequately!
Of course, if people are against the idea of an anon period, this aspect can still be revised. But I also think it’s important to try and experiment with new things, so we’ll see how this goes. :)
Regarding you being a Tarot newbie, I am so glad you are trying this! My goal is to make this an accessible and fun fest. Resources will be going up throughout to help with assignments. I am very happy to be running this and I hope you have a good time!
Re: Regarding the Anon Period
Date: 2019-10-09 08:18 am (UTC)For myself, since I'd feel more exposed posting anonymously knowing I'd be recognised but not being able to 'show myself', I'd personally vote in favour of revising (maybe making the anon period opt-in, if possible, or else giving the option to wait until the anon period is over before adding our works to the collection?).
That's just me throwing out my own thoughts, though, and I'll happily support the anon period if it's preferred! I realise there probably won't be many in my particular situation, and you've explained really well how freeing the anonymity might be for others. Ultimately, whatever makes people feel able to create what they like is best for everyone. :)
Thanks again for taking the time to explain so clearly, and for letting me ramble out my thoughts on this!
Re: Regarding the Anon Period
Date: 2019-10-10 01:34 am (UTC)I've given it some thought and I've decided to make anon an opt-out choice in the sign-ups. Clarifications, for what this means for posting, will come once I've decided definitively which way I will do this.
I want people to have a good experience and this really doesn't seem like a huge request for me to work with. <3

Deck Showcase

Date: 2019-10-14 12:40 pm (UTC)Circus of Fortune Tarot
Rackham Tarot
Santa Muerte Tarot
English Magic Tarot
Tarot of the Haunted House
The Wild Unknown Tarot
I also have a Universal Waite and a Marseille deck somewhere in this house, but I figure if someone's having trouble with RWS then switching to UW or Marseille will have negligible benefits compared to the above.

Date: 2019-10-14 08:07 pm (UTC)The post will go up a day or a couple of days before October 31st, so if you would repost it then, that would be spectacular!

Date: 2019-10-14 08:05 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, I'm not sure what to do with these? The fest already has a banner made for it and personally, I would rather use graphics made by myself for the fest.
But again, thank you so much for the thought. It warms my heart that you're so enthusiastic. <3

Date: 2019-10-16 03:47 am (UTC)The signup form has a section asking what platform we'd like to post on. Is it okay to not have a definitive answer yet, or to update you later via email if the answer changes? I'm not sure what format I'll be working in, and I post fic and art on separate accounts...

Date: 2019-10-27 06:48 pm (UTC)Well, you can always contribute to discussion (maybe help someone who's struggling with reading a card) in one of the posts going up?
Either way keep your eyes peeled for Round Two, which is tentatively anticipated for April.
