And with that, Round One of Fortune Favors comes to a close~
Thank you to everyone who helped brainstorm and everyone who participated (or tried to)! Modding this fest has been a real bright spot for the backend of this year.

With the conclusion of everything, I'd like to request feedback. Any feedback is welcome and please feel free to offer criticism (because the aim is to improve the fest in-line with the wishes of the community).

☆ Regarding Sign-Ups: How easy did you find it to sign-up? Did the method used to send out the assignments work well? If not, why? Is there anything you would change about the way signups are handled?

☆ I've had a number of people tell me how they couldn't finish their assignments by the deadline. And in particular, I've had a few people inquire about an amnesty period. An amnesty period is definitely something I've been considering. Currently, I'm thinking of having all past collections open with the current round's for people who would still like to submit their fills with previous prompts. They would open in an unmoderated capacity and people would be welcome to add as they like. Of course, the requirements of completion still would apply. I'd love to hear any thoughts regarding this.

☆ How well did the anon/non-anon split work? Should the anon option and reveals period be culled to streamline the fest?

☆ Were the resources helpful? How can they be improved?

I will use the responses to structure Round Two, which is planned to start in April 2020 (the next deck to be used will be decided then)! Happy Holidays, everyone! ♥

*There will be no Works Round-Up because no one posted outside of the AO3 Collection, and so I've deemed it unnecessary.

Now that sign-ups have been open for a week and are open for only one more, it's time to talk about how the fest will move forward!

☆ Firstly, I'll be commenting your assignment number under your sign-up. This number signifies in which order I have received your sign-up and where in line you will be to receive your assignment when they officially go out. If you do not receive a number, please contact me immediately (I have not received your sign-up).

☆ Secondly, a clarification on the sign-ups, please make sure that the username(s) listed on your sign-up coincide with the places you intend to post. For example, if you only list your DW name when you intend to post both on DW and AO3, please add your AO3 name as well.

☆ Lastly, because this fest concerns a topic in which many people have little to no experience and/or multiple perspectives would be useful, please consider the resources that will be going up below. The last thing I would want is for someone to receive their assignment and then have no idea to where to go from there! For inclusivity to all experience levels, please try to contribute, ask for help, and/or help in these posts.

☆ Let's have a good time. :)

The works posted by the Anon Participants have officially been de-anoned*! I thank all of you who participated or attempted to in the anon period! The fact that this fest has inspired even one person makes me very happy~

Of course, now that the Anon Participants have been revealed, the Collection will re-open for everyone else at 11:59 PM UTC tomorrow! Please note that it will be acting in a moderated capacity (so don't be concerned if your work does not show up in the Collection list); this is to ensure that the works are revealed simultaneously when the Collection closes once more.

Also, if you would like to add your work to the Collection, but don't have time to before the deadline, please contact me as soon as you can so we can work something out!

*I apologize profusely for the slight delay today. Unfortunately, Internet has been spotty here because of today's bad weather.

For our ☆ Anon ☆ Participants, assignments are due in a ~week.

Non-Anon ☆ Participants still have some time left to go to finish and polish up their fills!

I'd like to take some time to go over some posting guidelines with you all:

☆ If you are making use of the AO3 Collection, simply posting your fill under a username you signed up with is fine! No further steps are necessary.
☆ If you are posting outside AO3, please comment the location(link) of your fill under your assignment.

☆ Another thing required is an indications of what card(s)/spread(s)/deck(s)(if not RWS) you have used somewhere in your fill (notes, tags, etc...). Anywhere is fine as long as it is clear.

♥ Happy Posting! ♥

As always, any questions, clarifications, or suggestions are welcome!

What is a Tarot Spread?

A spread is the backbone of a reading. Depending on what you choose, the meaning of the cards laid out change their meaning as well. We use these to clarify our questions into an interpretable answer.

First of all, thank you to everyone who helped me brainstorm this fest and to those who signed-up! This fest would have never happened without either of you and I remain immensely grateful for the support and enthusiasm.

I will now process the remaining assignments, and then the fest can finally get started in earnest.

Assignments will begin going out on October 31st at 3AM [UTC] and everyone will have received theirs by the end of the day at the latest.

Note that your assignment number (AN) indicates your place in line to receive your assignment.

☆ Again, posts for resources and help will be going up between now and assignments. The schedule for this is here. Please feel free to contribute to any of these. They are for the participants of the fest before all!

☆ The first resources post has been updated and will continue being updated through the week.

☆ Please contact me immediately if you have not received an assignment number (I have not received your sign-up).

☆ Thank you all again. ♥

rider-waite the fool

For

the opening round of this fest, it's natural to begin with the Tarot deck that is considered the most well-known and widely owned. It is often called the first 'modern' Tarot deck because of its shift from Christianity and occult influences to a more abstract symbolism in its depictions. A. E. Waite thought up the concepts present in the deck himself, but Pamela Colman Smith was the one to illustrate them; putting his thoughts through her eyes. The deck was finalized in 1909 and is still massively popular today.

How to Read the Tarot?

A Tarot deck can seem intimidating at first glance, but anyone can learn to read the cards. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to read. A great starting point is what strikes first. Is it the color, a symbol, the number? What is your immediate reaction or feeling? Do any words jump out in your head? Humans are beings that derive meaning from what we see. You don't have to search anything up. Rather, look within and listen to what your intuition is telling you.

Interpreting

a card/reading is a deeply personal thing; everyone does it differently. Take anything said here with a grain of salt and if you have any tips or insights of your own, please feel free to share them in the comments.

This fest is still in the mid-planning stages, I (the mod) am still working out exactly how it will be run and what type of things should be allowed. Since I'm running this, not to participate, but to host, I'd like to run it in the way the community would like it to be run. For this reason, I've made this post: to take in suggestions and answer questions.

A brief explanation on how this fest will be run as it stands now:
There will be a post put up, in which you only have to sign-up with your AO3 name (preferred) or the username of where you would like to submit your assignment. There will be a collection for this fest hosted on AO3, but I'm not going to limit the places creations can be hosted. Please get in contact with me if you would like to make an AO3 account for the fest.

I
will then draw-up a three-card spread personally from the Rider Deck for each participant. I will using the Rider Deck as the default, but the participants are welcome to use any deck they prefer as long as they specify which deck they're using with a link in the posting. You, the participant, can use any of the spread to inspire your creations as long as you use at least one card. An example of this would be using three cards for a Past-Present-Future or two cards for a One-Truth/One-Lie. Any order of the cards is also fine. I only ask that which cards you choose to use and which spread also be specified in the posting!

There is no penalty for signing-up and not ending up posting anything ('defaulting').

What Is Currently Allowed + Requirements:
  • Fanfic (OW or otherwise):1K+
  • Art: a complete piece on unlined paper
  • Podfic: has to match assignment + 1K+ min
  • Fanmix: 8+ songs
  • Fanvid, AMV, etc.: 1 minute 30 seconds +

Please comment below to submit either a suggestion or a question.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to running this for everyone!
